Boxing champ Donaire arrives home in Manila

After knocking out Ukrainian Wladimir Sidorenko earlier this month, Filipino boxing champ Nonito Donaire returned home to the Philippines before dawn Tuesday. Radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported Donaire arrived on a Philippine Airlines flight (PR-105) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 at 3 a.m. With him in his quiet arrival in Manila was his wife Rachel, the report said, adding Donaire will spend the holidays in the Philippines before proceeding to Japan to train for his next fight, against Mexico's Fernando Montiel. Last December 5 (Manila time), Donaire earned his 24th straight victory through a fourth-round knockout over Ukrainian bantamweight Sidorenko. The referee stopped the fight with 1:48 still remaining in the fourth of the scheduled 12-round bantamweight title match at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. With the victory, Donaire will face WBO and WBC bantamweight king Montiel in Las Vegas on Feb. 19, 2011. — LBG, GMANews.TV
