BIR files P36-M tax evasion raps vs fashion director Robbie Carmona

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed a complaint against prominent fashion director and producer Robbie Carmona, who allegedly failed to pay P36.6 million in aggregate tax liabilities in 2007. In a complaint filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ), the BIR alleged that Carmona under-declared his income by P68.7 million for the said year. The bureau, however, did not indicate the total income the fashion director earned in 2007. The bureau is now demanding Carmona to pay P36.6 million in aggregate tax liabilities, including surcharges and interests. At a news briefing at the DOJ office in Manila on Thursday, BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto Henares listed a fastfood chain, a bank, and big department stores among Carmona's clients. GMANews.TV tried to contact Carmona via his Twitter account, but he could not be reached as of posting time. Also named on the charge sheet was a certain Gina Ogsonar, who allegedly issued "an unqualified opinion in her certification" of Carmona's financial statements for 2007 despite the latter's alleged tax evasion. – VVP, GMANews.TV
