Phivolcs: Magnitude-3.4 quake hits North Luzon


A magnitude-3.4 quake rocked parts of Northern Luzon Thursday afternoon but there was no initial report of casualty or damage. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 2:24 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. A bulletin on the Phivolcs website said the epicenter of the quake was 125 km northeast of Laoag City. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Calayan town, Cagayan province. However, it said no aftershock was expected. The U.S. Geological Survey earlier measured the quake at magnitude 4.4. USGS said the quake was recorded at 2:23 p.m., with the epicenter at 140 km north-northeast of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, or 145 km south-southwest of Basco in Batanes.—JV, GMANews.TV
