25 missing after Vietnamese ship capsizes off China; 2 safe

BEIJING — Rescuers have found two survivors and are searching for 25 men missing after a Vietnamese ship capsized in heavy winds and waves near China. An official surnamed Zhao, wih the South China Sea Salvage Bureau, said two Vietnamese survivors were found Friday morning. It wasn't clear if they were in lifeboats or in the water. The men were about 20 nautical miles from where the ship capsized Thursday morning. The vessel named Phu Tan sunk 110 nautical miles west of Sanya city on the southern island of Hainan. Zhao said the missing vessel was likely a cargo ship, not a fishing boat, and the men likely weren't fishermen. Initial reports on the ship gave those descriptions. He said documents from Vietnam "only call it a motor ship." — AP
