Phivolcs: Quakes rock Mindanao, Central Luzon


Quakes rocked parts of Mindanao and Central Luzon Friday night, but state seismologists said no damage or casualty was expected. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first quake was recorded in the Siargao area at 6:40 p.m. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake measured magnitude 4, and was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said the epicenter was at 59 km northeast of General Luna in Siargao. The quake was felt at Intensity I in Dapa, Del Carmen and Socorro in Siargao, Surigao del Norte. The second quake was recorded in Zambales in Central Luzon at 8:51 p.m. and measured magnitude 2.6. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic and its epicenter was at 32 km southwest of Iba, Zambales. There was no immediate report of specific locations where the second quake was felt. No aftershocks were expected, Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
