PHL deports ‘most wanted’ US pedophile

Victims of sexual abuse in the United States can finally be served justice after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested and deported an American pedophile considered one of the most wanted fugitives by the federal authorities. David Wayne Greth, 39 years old and a native of Virginia, hid in the Philippines for four years to evade prosecution for a string of sexual crimes involving minors. BI acting Commissioner Ronaldo Ledesma said Greth was deported the other day on an airplane flight to Los Angeles, California, where he was turned over to agents of the US-Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Joint operatives of the BI-Interpol Unit and the National Bureau of Investigation last Dec. 8 arrested the fugitive in his temporary residence in Mabini, Iloilo City. Greth’s notoriety was featured in the US television program “America’s Most Wanted" which showed how he committed the series of sexual crimes including two counts of aggravated sexual battery, three counts of forcible sodomy, and two counts of felony child abuse. The BI chief added that Greth made a living as an illegal English language tutor to Koreans living in Iloilo while he was hiding in the Philippines. “He also set-up illegal language schools in Bacolod City and Roxas City to cover-up his crimes in the US," Ledesma added. BI-Interpol unit chief Floro Balato Jr. said the bureau’s BI board of commissioners ordered Greth’s deportation since the American was an overstaying and undocumented alien. The US Embassy said Greth’s passport was revoked by the US State Department on Sept. 11, 2008 Balato added that Greth was charged with various sex crimes in Portsmouth, Virginia, including rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, three counts of forcible sodomy, and two counts of indecent liberties with children, as well as unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. BI records showed that Greth arrived in the country on Aug. 5, 2006, and never bothered to extend his tourist visa after his allowable stay expired. – MRT/KBK, GMANews.TV
