Subic International Marathon list-up in full swing

Runners from all over the world can now register for the 3rd Subic International Marathon (SIM) in a more convenient way just by visiting the SIM website, www.subicinternationalmarathon.info, and click the register online link. The Subic International Marathon, considered as the greenest and safest foot race, will fire off on January 9, 2011 at the Remy Field inside the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in Olongapo City. Registration can also be done at all Chris Sports branches nationwide, while Olongapo residents can register at the Subic Residencias. "Our registration in partner venues will be only until December 29. But late registration will be allowed through the online facility," said event founder (Ret.) Gen. Sam Tucay. "We are excited to show the splendor of Subic as a race destination in the Philippines," added Tucay. "Fresh air, spectacular terrain, and a wonderful community are ingredients for a memorable marathon or fun run." The 3rd SIM is expected to draw around 13,000 runners that will compete in the 42-kilometer full marathon and the 21K half marathon races as well as the 10K, 5K and 3K events. SIM race director Eric Imperio, who also directed the 70.3 Ironman Challenge and the 10-10-10 Pasig Run, believes the Subic marathon has the makings of a world-class racing event. "Runners will be given race chips, which we got from an Australian company, to monitor the time of the participants consistently. Portalets will also be made available in the race course, while drinking stations will also be provided every 1.5-kilometers of the race," said Imperio. – JVP, KY, GMANews.TV
