Black, Lim lead collegiate basketball awardees

Norman Black and Frankie Lim will again share one thing in common when the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps honors the top performers of the 2010 collegiate basketball season next year.

The UAAP-NCAA Press Corps, a group of sportswriters covering collegiate basketball games, will hand out the awards on January 17 at 7 p.m. at the Topaz 1 of the Gateway Suites in Cubao, Quezon City.

Black and Lim, who lead the list of awardees, will receive the Coach of the Year (COY) award, the same honor they shared in 2008. Both mentors were former members of the 1996 San Miguel team in the PBA as coach and player, respectively.

Both seasoned bench tacticians won the COY award after steering their respective teams to the UAAP and NCAA crowns in the recent collegiate season.

Black will be receiving his third straight UAAP COY plum after leading second-ranked Ateneo to its third straight crown with a two-game sweep of top seed Far Eastern University in the finals of the 73rd season.

Lim will accept his second NCAA COY plum after guiding San Beda to a perfect 16-0 record in the elimination round of Season 86 on their way to a two-game sweep of San Sebastian in the finals for their fourth title in five years.

Aside from the Coach of the Year plums, the five best players from both leagues will be named to the Collegiate Mythical Team.

The press corps will also give out the UAAP and NCAA Junior Players of the Year as well as the Super Seniors and Pivotal Player awards to a select group of cagers in the sixth edition of the event. – JVP, KY, GMANews.TV
