PAGASA: Flash floods, landslides loom over Bicol, Eastern Visayas

Flash floods and landslides loom over the Bicol region in southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas as a wind convergence over these areas threaten to bring rains on Christmas Day, state weather forecasters said. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PASAGA) also said the northeast monsoon is affecting Northern and Central Luzon. "Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with light rains while Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale force winds from the surge of northeasterly winds may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon and eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas. It advised fishing boats and small sea craft not to venture out to sea, and larger sea vessels to be alert against big waves. — LBG, GMANews.TV
