Report: Over 2,700 Albay residents evacuated from flood-prone areas


More than 2,700 residents in flood-prone areas of Albay were evacuated to safer ground on Wednesday, following heavy rains this week. A report of dzRH radio on Wednesday afternoon said governor Jose Salceda ordered the evacuation as part of his efforts to ensure "zero casualties." The report said as of noon, some 2,719 people, including those from Libon, Oas, and Polangui towns, had been brought to evacuation centers. Local disaster management teams have also prepared rubber boats for residents in other areas need to be evacuated. Salceda also ordered local government units to monitor flood-prone areas for lahar, floods, and landslides. The dzRH report said as of Wednesday, parts of downtown Legazpi City were already flooded. – VVP, GMANews.TV
