NDRRMC: Over 4,200 people evacuated from flood-prone areas in Bicol

More than 4,200 people had been evacuated from flood-prone areas in Albay and Sorsogon provinces in Bicol this week. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the evacuations stemmed from rains since early Wednesday morning. In its 7:00 p.m. Wednesday report (posted early on Thursday) on its website, the NDRRMC said the rains had affected and prompted the evacuation of 802 families or 4,274 people from Albay and Sorsogon. The figure includes 632 families (3,422 people) in Albay — Manito, Sto. Domingo, Malilipot and Bacacay, and Jovellar town. Also evacuated were 170 families (852 people) from flood-hit areas in Sorsogon, including Juban and Magallanes towns. The NDRRMC also said landslides temporarily isolated Tinapian village in Manito town in Albay as of 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. On the other hand, the main road along seven villages in Casiguran town in Sorsogon - Rizal, San Pascual, Santa Cruz, Burgos, Tiris, Casay, and Inlagadian - were rendered impassable due to spillway overflow in Casay village. Maintenance crews from the Philippine Army and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have started road clearing operations, the NDRRMC said. – VVP, GMANews.TV
