Coast Guard: Six parasailing tourists rescued off Boracay

Six tourists on their way to a parasailing event almost ended the year on a sour note after their motor banca capsized off world-famous Boracay Island this week. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Thursday the six were rescued after the incident happened on Monday. Citing belated reports reaching its head office, the Coast Guard said the six were riding the motor banca "Javie Jay" operated by a certain Naldo Ispiritu. The boat capsized some 600 meters away from the shoreline of Station 1 in Balabag village in Boracay Island, Aklan at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday. "While transferring their tourist guests to the speed boat of Boracay Island Adventure (BIA) for para-sailing activities, said Mbca went out of balance causing the boat to eventually capsize," the PCG said. The crew of the motor banca rescued all six guests while the capsized vessel was towed to the nearest shoreline. The six guests were brought back to their billeting station at Queens Resort. They were identified as:

  • Anatasha Gonzales, 52;
  • Gyro Mitchelle Mendoza, 27;
  • Jan Adrian Mendoza, 24;
  • Lawrence Petate, 20;
  • Desiree Petate, 24; and
  • Yhoraya Dael, 26. – VVP, GMANews.TV
