New Year's Day fratricide: Police chief killed by deputy in Nueva Ecija


The Philippine National Police has started a full investigation of the fatal shooting of a town police chief in Nueva Ecija province by his own deputy on New Year's Day. Radio dzBB reported Monday that the Interior Department, which supervises the PNP, gave the police one month to finish its investigation. Killed last New Year's Day was Talavera town police chief Superintendent Ricardo Dayag Jr., who was shot dead by his deputy, Inspector Bernardo Castro. The two had an argument where Castro was allegedly drunk. During the argument, Castro allegedly shot Dayag dead. Castro fled but eventually surrendered. He told reporters that it was an accident, but claimed that his superior was berating him at the time. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
