Phivolcs: 2 quakes rock northern Luzon


At least two quakes measuring magnitude 4.1 and 2.8 rocked parts of northern Luzon Monday morning, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the first quake measured magnitude 2.8 and was recorded near Batanes at 6:21 a.m. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the first quake was tectonic, with its epicenter at 72 km southwest of Basco town in Batanes. A second quake measuring magnitude 4.1 was recorded at 7:31 a.m. in the Ilocos Sur area, and was also tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said the epicenter of the second quake was estimated at 62 km southwest of Vigan, Ilocos Sur. No aftershocks were expected from both quakes, Phivolcs said. Western Visayas Meanwhile, a magnitude-4 quake rocked parts of Negros Occidental in Western Visayas Sunday afternoon, although Phivolcs no damage was expected. Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 2:38 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs traced the epicenter to 28 km southwest of Bago City in Negros Occidental. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Iloilo City and in Guimaras; and at Intensity I in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
