Rail 'obstruction' disrupts LRT 2 operations

Operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 were temporarily halted due to an alleged "obstruction" along the tracks in the Sta. Mesa district in Manila during rush hour early Tuesday. LRT-2 operations manager Jose Laigo said the object was reported past 7 a.m., forcing them to stop operations until the tracks were cleared. "Na-notice ng train driver may obstruction sa V. Mapa. Dahil sa obstruction we had to stop the operation. May foreign object sa track (Our train driver noticed an obstruction at V. Mapa. Because of the obstruction we had to stop the operation. There was a foreign object on the tracks)," Laigo said in an interview on dzBB radio. He did not elaborate, saying they are still trying to determine what the foreign object was. Laigo also cited initial reports reaching him indicated there were also foreign objects in other parts of the track. "Right now di kami makapag-operate, tingnan kung pwede half line from Santolan (As of before 8 a.m., we cannot operate. I will have to see if we can manage to have the LRT operating at half its route)," he said. The LRT-2 line ferries passengers from Marikina City to C.M. Recto in Manila. — LBG, GMANews.TV
