Caloocan councilman catches his killer on camera

A barangay councilman in Caloocan was shot to death as he was taking a picture of his family just outside his home after midnight on New Year's Day. The picture taken by the victim, Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa, showed a man aiming his gun from behind three members of the victim's family. The police said Dagsa was shot on his forearm and chest just seconds after taking the photo. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Dagsa's family gave the police the photo, which was published on the front page of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) on Tuesday.

Caloocan city police chief Jude Santos said a man identified in the picture was arrested on Monday. The suspect is an alleged car thief who was out on bail and likely sought revenge against Dagsa for ordering his arrest last year, police said. According to PDI, authorities identified the gunman as Michael Gonzales, alias Fubo of Fish Pond Area I in Caloocan. Another suspect— Rommel Oliva, alias Balong, who seemed to serve as a lookout -- was also captured in the photo, the PDI said. Oliva was seen in the picture behind one of the members of Dagsa's family. The police said Francis Bumjal, a second lookout, was also on the murder scene but was not captured in the picture, the PDI added. — with AP, RSJ/VVP
