PAGASA: Cold front to move to Cagayan-Isabela area by weekend

After the Bicol region in southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Cagayan-Isabela area in Northern Luzon may be the next to feel the effects of heavy rains brought by a cold front. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said its satellite data shows the cold front will start moving north on Friday. "On Wednesday and Thursday, the cold front is likely to stay in the Visayas-Mindanao area. By Friday and Saturday it is expected to go north toward Bicol. By Sunday it is likely to be in the Cagayan-Isabela area," PAGASA officer-in-charge Graciano Yumul Jr. said in an interview on dzRH radio Wednesday. He said this weather development means a relatively good weather in Metro Manila and Southern Luzon until Thursday afternoon, and turn cloudy and rainy by Friday. On the other hand, Yumul said that while it is possible the summer may bring "extreme" heat later this year, the public can expect more intense typhoons. "It is possible we will have extreme weather. But since we are in the midst of La Niña, we can expect typhoons to be more intense," he said. Yumul said the weather in Surigao area in northeastern Mindanao worsened late Tuesday night, with rains suddenly falling at about 11:30 p.m. He said this was hours after the weather in the area had improved. Meanwhile, PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin indicated Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. It added Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light rains. — LBG, GMANews.TV
