Faeldon back in Marines detention center

After a two-day "vacation" with his family in Taytay, Rizal, Marine Captain Nicanor Faeldon returned to his detention cell at the headquarters of the Philippine Marines in Fort Bonifacio Wednesday morning. A GMA News Flash Report said Faeldon was accompanied by his brother Danny. They left Taytay around 7 a.m., the same television report said.

Faeldon was temporarily released from detention around 9:20 a.m. Monday and went straight to the house of his brother in Rizal province. He earlier posted a P100,000 bail in connection with a pending coup d’etat case before a Makati court. It was Vice President Jejomar Binay, a reservist Marine officer, who shouldered the P100,000- bail because Faeldon could not afford it. However, the marine officer cannot be released yet from military custody due to cases he is still facing before a general court martial in connection with the July 2003 and November 2007 attempts to overthrow the Arroyo administration. "At this point in time, Capt. Faeldon cannot be released. He remains to be under the custody of the commandant of the Philippine Marines," Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta earlier said. Faeldon is among those who stand to benefit by the amnesty proclamation issued by President Benigno Aquino III although he has yet to decide if he would avail of it. A source close to Faeldon said the Marine officer will still study the amnesty's IRR (implementing rules and regulations) before making his decision. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMANews.TV
