Report: 15-year-old boy survives 3-day ordeal in Visayas sea

A 15-year-old boy survived a three-day ordeal at sea that started off Leyte in Eastern Visayas and ended a region away in Cebu in Central Visayas. The boy, Mark Sanico, endured cold weather and went without food or water during his ordeal, according to a report on Friday by dzBB's Cebu affiliate. On Thursday, residents in Guinsay village in Danao rushed Sanico to the Danao City District Hospital after his boat, which went adrift after losing fuel, reached the shore. Sanico, a Grade VI student from Cayanian village in Villaba town in Leyte, said his grandmother told him to fish last Monday. He said he brought only some corn with him. According to the boy, the engine of his boat conked out after the pipe that connects the engine to the plastic fuel container fell into the sea. Sanico said he first thought he could be rescued when he saw a fisherman on a boat in the area. But the fisherman apparently did not notice him when he waved. For three days, he said he endured the cold as well as hunger and thirst. — LBG, GMANews.TV
