Malacañang to consult stakeholders on sale of govt assets

A day after disclosing preliminary talks are ongoing for the sale of government assets – including portions of the police as well as the military's national headquarters – Malacañang assured the public Saturday that all stakeholders will be consulted on the matter. Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said privatization of these assets are still “on the drawing board." “At this point, the talks are on preliminary stages and all stakeholders will be consulted moving forward," she said on government-run dzRB radio. On Friday, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said the government is planning the sale of government assets, including the 178-hectare Camp Aguinaldo and the 33-hectare Camp Crame. Camp Emilio Aguinaldo is the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) while Camp Rafael Crame is the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Both camps face each other along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue in Quezon City. Purisima said he has talked to Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and the AFP leadership about the possible privatization of Camps Crame and Aguinaldo. Valte said President Benigno Aquino III said in his State of the Nation Address last July that there are investors interested in leasing certain portions of the camps. “Inulit ni Sec. Purisima, this is in the preliminary stages. Kausap namin si Sec. Gazmin in-affirm niya it is in preliminary stages, still on the drawing board (Purisima has stressed this is in the preliminary stages. And Gazmin affirmed it is still on the drawing board)," she said. However, Valte was mum on whether the privatization will fall under the Aquino administration’s public-private partnership program. “Wala pang feasibility study ito, di natin alam at this point ang finer details. Hindi natin alam ang final output ng discussions na ito (There has not been a feasibility study on the matter. We don’t know the finer details at this point. We don’t know the final output of the discussions)," she said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
