One of six fishermen from Catanduanes who were reported missing due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains last week was rescued Sunday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Coast Guard Bicol operatives rescued Joselito Soledad at 9:30 a.m. "At 9:30 a.m. today (Sunday), PCG V rescued Joselito Soledad alive, a fisherman of Sitio Cabungahan, Brgy. Cagdarao, Panganiban, Catanduanes who was earlier reported missing," the NDRRMC said in its 6 p.m. update. Still missing, however, are five other fishermen from Catanduanes: Patricio Peregrino, Rannie and Ricky Villar, and Joseph and Jerry Soledad. Others who remain missing are Bartolome Rabonque, 57, of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur; and Ronnie Jupson, 19, of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur. The death toll remained at 33, while the number of injured remained at eight. On the other hand, the NDRRMC said the affected population remained at 213,264 families or 1,120,685 people in 1,073 villages in 124 towns and 10 cities in 21 provinces. At least 171 houses had been destroyed while 265 were damaged.
