The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the damage to property caused by floods and landslides in parts of Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao in the last two weeks has reached almost P900 million. The NDRRMC, in its 6:00 a.m. update on Wednesday, said the damage to floods has reached P898,257,068.19. The figure includes:
P283,768,497.19 in damage to agriculture; P593,492,271 in damage to infrastructure, and P20,996,300 to private properties. The NDRRMC said 248,223 families have been affected (or 1,294,039 people) in 1,350 villages in 23 provinces. Caraga had the most number of people affected with 112,096 families (or 601,804 people), followed by Eastern Visayas with 66,341 families (or 338,064 people), and Bicol with 38,353 families (or 196,435 people). Some 4,839 families (or 22,505 people) are being served inside 86 evacuation centers. In Albay, 28 evacuation centers are serving 2,277 families (or 11,660 people) from Daraga, Malilipot, Manito, Sto. Domingo, and Camalig towns. In Eastern Visayas, 35 evacuation centers are serving 1,081 families or 4,820 people in Borongan and Maslog in Eastern Samar; and Bontoc, St. Bernard and Sogod in Southern Leyte. The death toll remained at 40, with eight injured and seven still missing. At least 368 houses were completely destroyed and 917 others were partially-damaged. Floods, landslides still threaten Bicol, East Visayas Meanwhile, state weather forecasters warned of more flash floods and landslides in Bicol and Eastern Visayas Wednesday due to the diffused tail-end of a cold front. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said flash floods and landslides continue to threaten Bicol and Eastern Visayas. PAGASA said this was due to the northeast monsoon prevailing over Northern and Central Luzon and the diffused tail-end of a cold front affecting Southern Luzon and Visayas. “Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said in its 5:00 a.m. bulletin. "The rest of Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered light rains," PAGASA added. PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
