Asistio earns spot in OneAsia golf circuit

Antonio Asistio II of the Philippines earned a spot in the OneAsia golf circuit after finishing 26th in the final stage of the Qualifying School (Q-School) tournament topped by Korean Han Chang-won at the Mission Hills-Sandbelt Trails in Haikou, China. Han, the 2009 Asian Amateur champion, tallied a 265 after a 67. He and the rest of the Top 10 will receive priority rankings in OneAsia's eligibility categories, as they earned the chance to tee up in all of OneAsia' full-field events. OneAsia will stage a total of 15 to 17 elite tournaments across the Asia Pacific for the 2011 season. So far, 13 events have been confirmed for OneAsia's preliminary schedule for 2011, with further additions to be made in the coming weeks. Asistio, a many-time national team member, closed out with a five-under 67. He cleared the last eight holes with three birdies after having four in the first nine as against two bogeys. The 20-year-old had a four-day total of 282 for a share of 26th to ensure his spot, since players ranked 11 through 40 will also be eligible for OneAsia membership. Another Filipino, Marvin Dumandan, just missed the 40th by a stroke with his 76 for 286. He'll still be playing in OneAsia but only in country-exempt tournaments. Ferdie Aunzo, the third Filipino competitor, made a 69 for 292 (59th) and will get a card like Dumandan's. – Adrian Flores, JVP, KY, GMANews.TV
