PHL Razcals gun for World Mustang berth vs Singapore

The Philippines earned the first finals berth in the Mustang division of the Pony Baseball Asia-Pacific Zone Championship following a 21-16 win over Indonesia on Saturday at the Vin Yen baseball field in Vinh Phuc Province, Vietnam. The match was knotted at 15-all after four innings before the Philippines, nicknamed the Razcals, tightened up its defense and outscored the Indonesians in the final two innings to complete a 3-0 sweep of their matches in the four-team, single-round robin elimination. The freezing winter wind affected the Nationals’ performance, with some of its players now suffering from fever. Indonesia, which needed to win by at least 10 runs to grab a finals berth, ended with a 1-2 record. The Philippines will face Singapore, a 21-1 winner against host Vietnam in the other match, in the Mustang division finals, with the winner representing the Asia-Pacific region in the World Mustang Championship in Texas in August. Sent to compete by the Philippine Tot Baseball Federation (PTBF), the team is highly favored against the Singaporeans after scoring a 13-3 triumph in their first meeting. – JVP, KY, GMANews.TV
