NDRRMC: Floods death toll rises to 52; girl is latest victim


The death toll from floods and landslides that hit parts of the country in the past weeks rose to 52 Monday night, with a four-year-old girl as the latest fatality. In its late Monday update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the fatality as Carry Fermin, 4, of Talomo River in Davao City. While those injured remained at eight, at least 16 remain missing, the latest 10 of whom were from Catanduanes and Camarines Norte in Bicol. Missing were Juan Ramos, Vicente Rozada, Francisco Pagurayan and Lemuel Pagurayan of Pandan, Catanduanes; Severino Valenzuela Jr. of Carorian village in Bato, Catanduanes; Haziel Cabanez Teope and Berne Penancio Bercede of Bote village in Bato, Catanduanes; Erwin Baricas, Renan Baricas and Jonie Malinao of Pinagtigasan village in Calauas Island in Vinzons, Camarines Norte. The NDRRMC said the floods and landslides had affected 310,203 families or 1,586,548 people in 1,796 villages in 159 towns and 17 cities in 25 provinces. It said that 1,889 families or 8,452 people are currently in 51 evacuation centers. Damage to property was estimated at P1.626 billion, including P417.715 million in agriculture and P1.188 billion in infrastructure. — With Jerrie Abella/VS, GMANews.TV
