Another charred body found in Central Luzon; 3rd in a week

Authorities on Tuesday found another charred body in Central Luzon, the third in less than a week after the burnt remains of Emerson Lozano, son of former Marcos lawyer Oliver Lozano, and his driver were discovered separately last Friday and Thursday, respectively. Arsenio Evangelista, whose son Venson has been missing, told radio dzBB that he rushed to Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija after he was informed by the police about the discovery of the body. “Wala pa ring confirmation na anak ko ito (There’s no confirmation yet that the body belongs to my son). We are still waiting for dental matching," Evangelista said. Like Emerson, Venson was also a car dealer and was last seen accompanying a prospective buyer for a test drive. Emerson’s body was found in Porac, Pampanga, while the remains of his driver, Ernane Sensil, were found in Tarlac.

Arsenio said he does not think the body belonged to Venson. “Bilang ama, wala akong nararamdaman kasi parang hindi ko ito anak. Sa kutob ko, wala (As a father, I don’t feel that the body is my son’s)." Arsenio described Venson, 30, as having a medium built and fair complexion. He said his son also has a tattoo on his right arm. He said they could not see if the body had a tattoo because — like Emerson and Sensil's — it was burned beyond recognition. Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the crime, but they are looking at the possibility that the perpetrators belonged to a local car-napping syndicate in Central Luzon whose members pose as car buyers. - Mark D.
