Women from Asia, Africa in PHL for training on gender, peace work

Some 15 female peacemakers from Africa, and Asia, including the Middle East, are now in the Philippines for a one-week practical training on gender and peace work. The 15 women are taking part in a Gender Sensitive Active Nonviolence Training from Jan. 16 to 22, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) said. "Organized by Aksyon para sa Kapayapaan at Katarungan – Action for Peace and Justice (AKKAPKA), in partnership with the International Fellowship of Reconciliation African Desk, the training aims to capacitate the women peacemakers through practical experiences on gender and peace work in the country," the OPAPP said in an article posted on its website on Tuesday. The OPAPP added that the participants will also take a field trip in selected institutions that carry out gender and peace initiatives. The training is supported by Projects for Peace, a comprehensive program of partnership between the government and civil society, spearheaded by the OPAPP. AKKAPKA, the project proponent, is a Philippine group of the Netherlands-based International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR).
