Phivolcs: 4 predawn quakes rock Luzon, Mindanao

At least four predawn quakes rocked Luzon and Mindanao Wednesday, two of them in Zambales in Central Luzon, even as a magnitude-4.1 quake hit Eastern Samar Tuesday night. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), however, said there was no initial report of damage or casualty. It said the first quake in Zambales, which measured magnitude 3.2, was recorded at 3:19 a.m. and was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said the epicenter was 77 km northwest of Iba town. A second quake measuring magnitude 2.7 also hit the province at 3:21 a.m., which Phivolcs said was also tectonic. It said the epicenter was 83 km northwest of Iba. In Mindanao, a magnitude-2.8 quake rocked the General Santos City area at 3:39 a.m., with the epicenter at 239 km southeast of the City. In Northern Luzon, on the other hand, a magnitude-2.1 quake rocked Isabela province at 3:54 a.m., with the epicenter at 29 km southwest of Ilagan, Isabela. Last Tuesday night, Phivolcs said a magnitude-4.1 quake rocked Eastern Samar in Eastern Visayas. Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 6:41 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was 103 km southeast of Borongan town. — LBG, GMANews.TV
