Magnitude-4.3 quake hits Nueva Vizcaya, aftershocks expected


A magnitude-4.3 quake rocked Nueva Vizcaya province in northern Luzon Friday morning, even as state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 8:55 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 7 km southwest of Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity IV in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Intensity III in Solano town; and at Intensity II in Baguio City and in Cauayan City in Isabela province. Under Phivolcs' Earthquake Intensity Scale, Intensity IV is "Moderately Strong," and can be felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. "Light sleepers are awakened. Vibration is felt like a passing of heavy truck. Hanging objectsswing considerably. Dinner, plates, glasses, windows and doors rattle. Floors and walls of wood framed buildings creak. Standing motor cars may rock slightly. Liquids in containers are slightly disturbed. Water in containers oscillate strongly. Rumbling sound may sometimes be heard," it said. An Intensity III quake is considered "Weak," while Intensity II is "Slightly Felt." However, Phivolcs said it does not expect damage from Friday morning's quake. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
