Tabuena rebounds with a 71 in Asian Tour Q-School

Filipino Miguel Tabuena rebounded from a poor opener with a one-under-par 71 to make the cut in the second round even as frontrunner Lucas Lee of Brazil extended his lead in the Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage in Hua Hin, Thailand. The 16-year-old Tabuena was off-form with a 75 to open his bid as a touring amateur in the Asian Tour circuit. With a 146 total, he earned a share of 99th place and was among the last players to enter the weekend rounds at the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club. He will have to get to at least four- or five-under to be able to get into the upper half of the standings. The top-40 plus ties will earn their Asian Tour cards for the 2011 season. Lee, meanwhile, continues to dominate the field with a 65 for a two-day total of 17-under 127, which is the third lowest two-round score in the Asian Tour, and was six strokes better than Japan’s Hirohito Koizumi and New Caledonia’s Pierre-Henri Soero. The Brazilian, who played college golf at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), was delighted with his massive lead, with his second-round game highlighted by a huge 45-foot birdie putt on the eighth hole. David Johnson of the United States, who also played at Imperial Lakeview, closed with a 64 to join Australians Kieran Pratt (67) and Adam Groom (68) at fourth place with a 135 total. – Adrian Flores, JVP, GMANews.TV
