LTFRB revokes bus firm's franchise over last year's strike

Singer Claire dela Fuente's transport firm was the first to feel the wrath of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board over last year's surprise bus strike in Metro Manila. Radio dzBB on Saturday reported the LTFRB revoked the franchise of Dela Fuente's Corinthian Bus Corp. after rejecting her "explanations" for the absence of her firm's units from Metro Manila roads last Nov. 15. LTFRB chairman Nelson Laluces said Dela Fuente's lawyers can appeal the decision, which he said will take effect 15 days after it is received. A report on GMA's 24 Oras last Friday evening said Dela Fuente declined to make comments as her camp has not received yet the franchise revocation order from the LTFRB.
Meanwhile, the report on Dz BB said the LTFRB expects to come out this coming week with its decision on other bus firms that took part in the November strike. More than 8,000 commuters were inconvenienced when bus firms staged a strike last Nov. 15, to oppose the inclusion of buses in the number-coding scheme. Under the number-coding scheme, buses in Metro Manila will be barred from plying their routes on certain days, depending on the last digit of their license plates. Banned on Mondays are vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2; Tuesdays, 3 and 4; Wednesdays, 5 and 6; Thursdays, 7 and 8; and Fridays, 9 and 0. — LBG, GMANews.TV
