Phivolcs: Magnitude-1.8 quake hits Surigao

A magnitude-1.8 quake hit the Surigao area in Mindanao Saturday afternoon, but there was no initial report of casualty or damage. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 1:49 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. It said that the quake's epicenter was 30 km northeast of Tandag in Surigao del Sur, with the Philippine Trench as a possible source. However, Phivolcs did not initially specify the areas where the quake was felt. It also said no aftershocks were expected from the afternoon quake. — TJD, GMANews.TV
