Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.1 quake hits Zambales


A magnitude-5.1 quake rocked Zambales province in Central Luzon on Saturday evening, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 6:18 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was 17 km northwest of Iba town in Zambales. However, the bulletin did not immediately cite specific areas where the the quake was felt. On its website, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. The US-based agency said the epicenter was 55 km west-southwest of Dagupan (Pangasinan); 100 km southwest of Baguio City; 110 km northwest of Angeles (Pampanga); or 185 km northwest of Manila. — TJD, GMANews.TV
