Palace belies rumors of bomb threats in some MManila areas

Malacañang on Wednesday belied cell phone messages circulating among the public that several areas in Metro Manila have received bomb threats, as top officials assured the government’s capability to protect the public. Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda asked the public to be wary of unscrupulous elements using Tuesday’s deadly bus bombing in Makati to spread false alarms through text messages and to cause distress and confusion for their selfish ends. “Be assured your government is balancing accessibility of information with our duty to protect public security and order," he said in a text message to Palace reporters. “There are cases of hoaxes about so called security threats and we would like to assure the people that all measures to attend to security concerns are in place," he added.—Amita O.
