Phivolcs: Quakes hit Ilocos Sur, Quezon, Siargao

At least two predawn quakes rocked Ilocos Sur and Quezon provinces in Luzon Friday, while a magnitude-2.7 quake hit the Siargao group of islands in Mindanao Thursday night. But the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said no damage or aftershock was expected from all three quakes. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said Friday's first predawn quake measured magnitude 3 and was recorded at 1:21 a.m. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic, and its epicenter was 49 km northwest of Vigan, Ilocos Sur. A second predawn quake was recorded at 4:28 a.m., with the epicenter at 6 km southeast of Infanta, Quezon. The quake measured magnitude 2.3, Phivolcs said. Meanwhile, Phivolcs said a magnitude-2.7 quake was recorded at 40 km northeast of General Luna in Siargao in Surigao del Norte province. It said the quake was recorded at 8:41 p.m. — LBG, GMANews.TV
