Patrombon will skip Turkey men's event to undergo surgery

Jeson Patrombon will pass up on the $10,000 F4 Futures 2011 tournament in Antalya, Turkey since he's scheduled for a medical operation when he returns to the country next week. This was according to Patrombon's coach, Manny Tecson, who said he found out that a small portion of the wart that was operated on last year is still imbedded in the 17-year-old junior netter's left foot. "I have decided to cancel the men's Futures tournament in Turkey this February because Jeson needs to go back to the doctor, as a small portion of the wart that was operated on before is still imbedded in his foot," said Tecson. Tecson discovered the imbedded wart after Patrombon's quarterfinal loss to fourth seed George Morgan of Great Britain in the Australian Open Juniors Championships on Thursday. Tecson said skipping the Turkey tournament would give Patrombon more time to prepare as he moves up to the tough professional tour. "Our immediate goal now is to break down our schedule to 60 percent juniors and 40 percent men’s tournaments. This year will be a gradual transition for Jeson in the pro circuit, because he still needs to grow and improve on his mental, physical and tactical game in tennis," said Tecson. The Futures could have been Patrombon's second tournament and his first in a men's event this year. He was supposed to compete together with Marc Reyes in the February 7 to 13 hardcourt event. But according to Tecson, Reyes is himself still recovering from dengue which he got a month ago. Despite Patrombon's 7-5, 2-6, 3-6 loss to Morgan in their quarterfinal match at Melbourne Park, Tecson said his ward is expected to enter the Top 10 in the ITF junior rankings with his performance in that tournament. Patrombon is currently 12th in the ITF rankings. "Our objective was to make the quarterfinals in singles of a Grand Slam, and to break into the Top 10 rankings in the world. Both goals have been achieved because of this quarterfinals result in the Aussie Open," added Tecson. Patrombon will be back in training after the minor surgery, as he is set to compete in International Tennis Federation Grade I tournaments in Malaysia and Thailand. He will also join the Mitsubishi Lancer International Juniors Tennis Championships in Manila on March 22 to 27. – JVP, KY, GMANews.TV
