Palace heartened over looming fuel price cuts

Malacañang is heartened over looming fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price rollbacks, saying the move will ease the burden of poor Filipinos. Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte also lauded discounts for public utility vehicles, which she said should prevent possible fare hikes and protests by transport groups. “We are happy with the fuel price rollback as this could prevent moves for a fare hike. Transport groups would be forced to seek fare hikes amid high fuel prices," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. During the weekend, Flying V announced it will roll back prices of its products effective Monday, including an 80-centavo-per-liter price cut for gasoline, and 20-centavo-per-liter for diesel.
Valte also cited reports that Shell will implement a P1/liter discount for diesel in selected stations for public transport vehicles such as jeeps, tricycles, buses, multi-cabs, and taxis. On the other hand, a report on QTV-11 television said dealers of LPG hinted at a possible rollback of P3 to P4 per liter. “We hope that with these developments, transport groups will not strike so our riding public will not be affected," Valte said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
