Que makes it back-to-back in The Country Club

Determined to surpass his so-so scores in the middle rounds, Angelo Que turned in a one-over-par 71 to complete a big comeback in the final round of the P4.7-M The Country Club Invitational held at the wind-raked The Country Club course in Canlubang, Laguna. Que, who appeared tight on Friday and Saturday, loosened up with his shots. He played through the howling winds and putted with consistency on the slick greens to finish with a 72-hole aggregate of six-over-par 286 that earned him back-to-back titles. The Asian Tour veteran grabbed the lead in the opener, but trailed in the next two days. Before the final round, he was three shots behind Antonio Lascuna. But Que refused to throw the white towel and rallied to nail the P1.4-M top prize. "I was confident with my game and I knew that somehow I could pull off a win coming from behind. With a little bit of luck, I did it," said a beaming Que, who hugged his wife Tracy after he made his last putt. Marvin Dumandan matched Que’s output with a 71 to place second with a 287. Two-time winner Juvic Pagunsan checked in at third place on 289 after a 73, while Lascuna, the 2005 winner, skidded with an 80 for fourth and Omar Dungca placed fifth (75-295). Dumandan, a three-time winner in the PGT, made a valiant stand, but came up short in the end. "I knew I had a chance. I'm still happy, though, with my performance because I'm in second and only one shot off. My time will come soon," he said. Lascuna attributed his woeful outing to not hitting the range Saturday. "My lack of practice showed off today," he said, still rubbing his ailing right elbow. Andrea Unson (73-295) went home with the low amateur honors. It was her second victory for the year after she won the Philippine International Junior Golf Championships at the Ayala Greenfields. "I'm proud of Andie (Unson). She is fast shaping up to become one of the better lady amateurs in the land," said national team coach Bong Lopez. Jayvie Agojo settled for runner-up honors with a 74-300, followed by Lovelynn Guioguio (74-301) and Dottie Ardina (77-305). - KY, RCJ, Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
