Number of flood victims breaches 2-M mark


The number of people affected by floods and landslides in parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao breached the two-million mark on Monday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its 6:00 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the floods had affected 399,237 families (or 2,001,221 people) in 190 towns and 18 cities. As of Monday, the NDRRMC said 2,207 families (or 10,580 people) are still housed in 61 evacuation centers. The NDRRMC said the death toll remained at 75, with 13 injured and 22 still missing due to flash floods and maritime incidents. Some 1,114 houses were completely destroyed while 4,610 were partially-damaged. Damage to property was estimated at P2.053 billion, including P659.533 million in agriculture and P1.372 billion in infrastructure. Areas in Surigao hit by power interruptions Meanwhile, the NDRRMC reported power interruptions in Surigao del Norte while some villages in San Francisco town remained impassable due to damaged roads and bridges. The NDRRMC added that a 15-meter approach to a timber bridge in Sison town collapsed, isolating Mayag and Gacepan villages. At least 15 electric posts in Tagna-an, Surigao del Norte were destroyed and the provincial electric cooperative estimates the restoration may take one week.
