Carandang on new Juana Change video: I don't care

A Malacañang official sees no need to respond to every criticism hurled against President Benigno Aquino III, even if it comes from a supporter — Juana Change. “I haven’t seen it and I don’t care," said presidential communications development and strategic planning Secretary Ricky Carandang, referring to Juana Change’s new video taunting President Aquino for buying a Porsche. He said the Palace respects everybody’s right to criticize the President. “We don’t have to respond to everybody who criticizes the President. There’s constructive criticism, there’s non-constructive criticism," said Carandang without saying if Juana Change’s criticisms were constructive or not. He also said he doesn’t know if Juana Change (Mae Paner in real life) remains a supporter of the administration. Juana Change campaigned for President Aquino in the May 10, 2010 elections. “I cannot speculate on her mental state. She says she’s a supporter then you have that (criticism) so hindi ko alam (I don’t know). We don’t know what her perspective is right now," said Carandang. Speaking for himself, Carandang said there are more important things to do than deal with critics of President Aquino. “There are so many more important issues so I’m not going to get upset about another critic of the President," he said. Carandang said he hasn’t spoken to President Aquino regarding his reaction to the video. In the video, Juana Change engages in a discussion with ordinary folk about President Aquino’s decision to purchase a "third-hand" Porsche. Critics had criticized this move for its alleged insensitivity in the face of widespread poverty. Juana Change had clarified that she is not severing ties nor withdrawing support from President Aquino. Malacañang said there is nothing wrong with the President purchasing a luxury car as long as he uses his own money for it. - KBK, GMANews.TV
