DOJ to probe 'Alabang Boys' prosecutor over QC shooting

(Updated 5:50 p.m.) State Prosecutor John Resado is facing an internal probe at the Department of Justice for supposedly firing his handgun at a car parked in front of the compound where he is residing, located in Quezon City. In a statement on Friday, Prosecutor General Claro Arellano said Justice Sec. Leila de Lima herself ordered the investigation, which will be conducted by Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Severino Gana Jr. "Rest assured, the Department of Justice shall not tolerate any acts of this nature, especially if committed by prosecutors of the Department. If proven that Resado committed the misdeeds attributed to him, the Department shall impose sanctions on him," said Arellano.
Resado made headlines in 2009 after he recommended the dismissal of the drug charges against three young scions of wealthy families who lived in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), who had been working to pin down the three, who were tagged as the “Alabang Boys," had alleged that Resado received money in exchange for the dismissal of the charges, but he denied the allegations. Then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo later ordered criminal charges filed against the “Alabang Boys" and administrative charges also be filed Resado and two other state prosecutors allegedly involved in letting the Alabang Boys off the hook. Lim's car was parked in front of Bautista's compound along Ilagan St., where Resado is renting a room. According to a report by Radio dzBB’s Roland Bola, Resado arrived home allegedly drunk, and was enraged to see Lim's car blocking the gate to the compound. Even when Lim agreed to move the car away from the gate, Resado allegedly poked his firearm at the visitor and fired at his car. Some of the shrapnel reportedly hit and wounded Lim in the knee. The radio report said police are now looking for Resado, who fled after the incident. GMANews.TV tried to contact Resado, but he could not be reached as of posting time. He did not report for work on Friday as well. —Sophia M. Dedace/JV, GMANews.TV
