Alleged carjacker coddler: Drug lords are smearing me

After being linked to the Dominguez carjacking syndicate, Director Roberto "Boysie" Rosales of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Northern Luzon said Sunday tagging him as "coddler" of carjackers may have been the work of groups he crossed paths with in the past. The smear job was the work of criminals he had encountered before, Rosales said in an interview with radio dzBB, referring to drug dealers he had helped bust and corrupt police officers he dismissed. "This is a personal attack.... I challenge the one behind the report to come out with proof," Rosales said. On Sunday, a Philippine national daily published a story based on a confidential report alleging that Rosales and Supt. Napoleon Cauyan —former head of the defunct Traffic Management Group pf the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Task Force — were protectors of the Dominguez carjacking syndicate. Cauyan also denied the allegations. A former head of the National Capital Region Police Office and the Manila Police District, Rosales said he is ready to face any investigation, saying some police officials may be behind the smear job because he could possibly be the next PNP chief. "There are so many things to find out [on who is behind this smear campaign]. Who has the most to gain from this," Rosales explained. — JE/VS/HS, GMA News Online
