Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.8 quake rocks Eastern Samar


A magnitude-4.8 quake rocked Eastern Samar in Eastern Visayas shortly after noon Tuesday, but there was no initial report of damage or casualties. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 12:08 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was at 145 km southeast of Borongan in Eastern Samar. However, it did not list specific areas where the quake was felt. Phivolcs said no aftershock was expected from Tuesday noon's quake. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey said the quake's epicenter was at 100 km east of Guiuan, Samar; 180 km northeast of Surigao; 180 km east of Tacloban, Leyte; or 735 km east-southeast of Manila. — LBG, GMA News
