Military to pay tribute to ex-AFP chief Angelo Reyes

The military will pay a tribute to the former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Angelo Reyes on February 11, for his contributions to the organization and the country as well. According to AFP public affairs chief Lt. Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr., the remains will be brought at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow to the Saint Ignatius Cathedral in Camp Aguinaldo from the Ascension Columbary in Quezon City. On Saturday, Reyes' remains will be brought to the canopy area of the general headquarters for the necrological services at 6:00 p.m. On Sunday, departure honors will be held at 8:00 a.m. before the remains are brought to the Libingan ng mga Bayani at 11:00 a.m. Several high profile individuals have paid their respects to Reyes, including former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, and members of Arroyo's former Cabinet. Meanwhile, the Reyes family had expressed that critics of the late Defense secretary are not welcome during the wake. Reyes killed himself Tuesday morning in front of his mother's grave, hours before he was supposed to attend a House hearing on alleged military corruption. Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, a Canon Law expert said Reyes may still get a Catholic burial despite the suicide, if a bishop allows it. – VVP, GMA News
