Aquino reluctant to attend Reyes' wake

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III is reluctant to attend the wake of former military chief and Defense secretary Angelo Reyes, saying they were never close. “Secretary Reyes and I were never close. There are instances that we are on opposite side of a particular argument. The first one is the petroleum oil and lubricant issue," Aquino told reporters after the signing of memorandum of agreement for the conditional cash transfer (CCT) program at the Heroes Hall of Malacañang on Thursday. He said he would first ask Reyes’ family “if there is an issue if I attend." “I don’t want to add to the burdens of the family if my presence there will not be appreciated. I’ll have to ask them," said Aquino. He said at the very least he just wanted to condole with the family. “People are grieving at this point in time," he added. Aside from that, the President said “we are on the process of really unearthing everything that transpired." Aquino did not elaborate on this. Reyes was embroiled in the alleged corruption scandal in the military before he shot himself on February 8, which happens to be Aquino's birthday. – VVP, GMA News
