Guioguio grabs lead in DHL golfest

Lovelyn Guioguio sparkled and came up with a one-under-par 71 to seize the lead from erstwhile leader Sarah Jane Ababa and Chihiro Ikeda in the 16th WWWExpress-DHL National Golf Championships at the Canlubang Golf Club's North course Thursday. Playing under hot and humid conditions, Guioguio opened with an even 72. She has now a two-round aggregate of one-under 143. Ababa limped to a two-over 74 for 144 overall and shared second to third places with reigning Philippine Ladies Amateur Open and Southern Ladies champion Ikeda, who also carded a 71. “Masarap sa pakiramdam kapag lamang ka," said Guioguio, one of the rising stars of national team coach Bong Lopez. Andrea Unson leveled with a 72 for fourth. Southern Ladies runner-up Jayvie Agojo struggled to a 76 for 150, followed by Dottie Ardina (79-151), Daniella Uy (75-153), and Sunshine Baraquiel (75-155). In the men’s side, Korean Wang Jeung-hun shot a 69 to keep a four-shot advantage over Clyde Mondilla. Wang turned in five birdies to cushion his late bogeys on the 15th and 17th for a 204 aggregate with one round left. Mondilla settled for a 208 after matching Wang’s 69. Zanie Boy Gialon bounced back from a 73 with a 70, but the The Country Club bet, who trailed Wang by just one in the first round, now has a 210 and is six strokes adrift. - KY, RCJ, GMA News
