Patriarch runs amok, massacres ‘family’ in Davao

A patriarch ran amok and hacked to death his live-in partner and four others after an argument in Davao del Norte province Friday afternoon. Radio dzBB reported early Saturday the suspect, Digne Salvador, surrendered to police after attacking the victims in Purok 12 in Sampao village in Kapalong, Davao del Norte. Killed by Salvador were his live-in partner Flormina Lagoy, 30; their two-year-old child Denden; Flormina’s daughter in a previous marriage Rosana, 12; and their nieces Chot-chot Masayang, 5; and Mariz Masayang, 2. An investigation showed the suspect came home drunk and had an argument with Flormina. He then took a bolo and started attacking the victims before surrendering to local authorities. The dzBB report said the suspect was still in a state of shock as of Saturday morning. Salvador now faces charges of parricide and homicide, even as police are still looking into what motivated him to attack his own family. — LBG, GMA News
