Four family members murdered in Cainta

(Updated 5:13 p.m.) At least four members of a family were found brutally killed in their house on Valentine's Day morning in Cainta town in Rizal province, a radio report said Monday. On Monday, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported that police are now looking into the possible role of the slain patriarch's nephew in the killing. Found dead in their house in West Bank Road in San Andres village were patriarch Amado Acibar Sr.; his wife Elizabeth; and children Amado Jr., 14; and Fritzie, 10. Police Officer 2 Efren Raminan said the four bore hack wounds in the body and had signs they were hit on the head with hard objects. He also said the house appeared to be ransacked. "Allegedly ang suspect, allegedly narining ng kapitbahay [na si] Zenaida Marco, ang nabanggit ng biktima alyas Junjun (Neighbors said they heard the victims calling out the name of the suspect as a certain Junjun)," Raminan said, adding Junjun was allegedly Amado Sr.'s nephew. Reward In a separate radio interview, Cainta Mayor Dominic Ilagan said they suspect more than one person was behind the massacre of the Acibar family, based on an initial inspection of the crime scene. At the same time, Ilagan said a P100,000 reward will be given to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators Interviewed over dzRH radio, Ilagan said they are now looking for Fortunato Ilagan, the "Junjun" earlier tagged as one of the possible suspects in the crime.
"Sa tingin ko di kaya ng isang tao ito, maliit lang itong bahay ... Tinitingnan ng pulis ang angle baka di lang isang tao. Inatasan ko ang pulis in West Manggahan Floodway na magsagawa ng checkpoint," Ilagan told radio dzBB earlier in the day. (I do not think a single person did all this. The house was small, and there was a sign of a big struggle. Police also think more than one person was behind this. I have ordered police in the West Manggahan Floodway to set up checkpoints.) Citing initial police reports, Ilagan said the family may have been killed between 11 p.m. and midnight of Sunday, following an argument between Amado Sr. and his nephew Junjun Asebar, 24. "Nagkaroon ng commotion between 11 p.m. and 12, narinig ng kapitbahay nagkaroon ng sigawan. Narinig ng kapitbahay, ‘Tama na po, huwag na po, tama na po’ (There was a commotion between 11 p.m. and midnight. Neighbors heard shouts of ‘Stop it, that’s enough’)," he said. He said the shouts were followed by silence, leading the neighbors to think Amado and Junjun had settled their differences. But at about 5:30 a.m., he said one of the neighbors who went to the house saw blood flowing from it. Ilagan said Junjun allegedly moved in with the victims last August, and even had a drinking spree at the house at 7 p.m. Sunday. He said the disheveled house indicated one of the children tried to escape but was blocked by another suspect. "Nagkarambulan talaga inside, nag-struggle ito (The house was disheveled and there were signs of a major struggle)," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
