Fire razing some 300 houses in Quezon City


A fire of still undetermined origin is razing to the ground some 300 houses in a residential area in Quezon City's Barangay Bahay Toro late Monday. Strong winds were fanning the fire, which remains uncontrolled as of this posting time. The blaze quickly spread from house to house that were mostly made of light materials, according to a report on GMA News' "Saksi". The Bureau of Fire Protection estimated as many as 1,000 families have so far lost their homes.

The alert level, which requires all fire departments in Metro Manila to help put out the fire, is a notch off of the highest general alert level. Residents fear that the fire may spread to nearby villages, as its has reached portions of at least two houses in the exclusive Congressional Village 3, separated only by a concrete wall from Bahay Toro. — Jerrie Abella/VS, GMA News
