Jilted suitor gets 3 years for murder try on Pinay in UAE

A jilted lover, a 41-year-old Indian computer programmer, was sentenced to three years in jail on Valentine's Day for trying to kill a Filipina, his former girlfriend, by stabbing her 27 times in 2009. The Indian national was also sentenced to one more month in jail for consuming alcohol, said a report posted on Tuesday on the UAE news site Khaleej Times. He was also ordered deported by the Court of First Instance after serving his jail term for premeditated murder attempt, assault, and use of liquor. The prosecutors had also accused the Indian of intentionally causing the Filipina, also his co-worker, a 10-percent permanent deformity after the attack. The Indian was also accused of assaulting other two colleagues who tried to move him away from the woman during the attack. But the Indian insisted he did not intend to kill the woman. "I did not have any intention of killing her. The incident happened so suddenly and I did not plan the whole matter… I was under the influence of liquor," he told Presiding Judge Mohammad Majid Mohammad, according to a separate report on Gulf News. The verdict can be appealed within 15 days, the Gulf News report added. Court records showed the Indian was drunk at the time of the incident, which is another charge against him. The complainant, a 23-year-old Filipina receptionist for a cleaning and security services company, told the prosecutor that the defendant was angry at her because she broke up with him. She said she had been in a relationship with him but had to cut it off as he was married and could not marry her because of differences in their religion. The Filipina narrated that on August 4, 2009, she was on an afternoon shift at her office in Al Khubaisy in Muraqqabat, and was busy arranging the desk equipment because they were about to move to a new location. “He came towards me and he smelled of liquor. He wanted to talk," she said. She told him that she would talk to him later outside the office when he was sober. “He said that I was not answering his calls," she said. “I saw him rushing towards me. As I stood up, he grabbed me by my shoulder and he held a medium-sized kitchen knife in his hand," she added. The woman said the Indian stabbed her 20 times on her abdomen and about seven times on her back after she fell down. She was also stabbed in her left arm as she was protecting her chest. As she was screaming, many employees came to help her. At least two of them were hurt while trying to get him away from her. The Filipina said the defendant went mad as she was ignoring his calls and he wanted her back. She said that he threatened to kill her if she left him. At least two other staff, who were hurt in the shoulder and abdomen, said they had to intervene after they saw the woman bleeding and the defendant attacking her with a knife. A report of the Criminal Laboratory showed the urine sample test of the defendant was reportedly positive for alcohol. – VVP, GMA News
